Semi-permanent make up is a procedure where permanent pigments are placed in the dermal layer of the skin and then the preferred colour is placed into the lower layer of the skin where it stays for anything up to 3 to 5 years.
This is a form of Cosmetic Tatoo. The skin usually takes 3-7 days to return to normal and it is normal to lose 1/3 of the colour in this initial period. This is increasingly more common and a few examples are eyebrows, eye liner, lip liner, lip extensions, full lip colour, beauty spots, freckles, Areola darkening / re-pigmenting / creation after surgery etc.
- Herpes (Cold Sore) outbreak if work on lips
- Allergic Reaction
- Spreading of pigments
- Damage to hair follicles
Some of these can be caused by the needles being inserted too deeply, lack of hygiene or proper sterilisation or an error made by the practitioner. Skin Sensitivity tests should also be carried out on an unseen area to check that no allergic / adverse reaction will occur.
